I am writing with mixed feelings to announce that Yves Lussier, MD, FACMI, associate vice president for information sciences and chief knowledge officer, founding director of the Center for Biomedical Informatics and Biostatistics, associate director for cancer informatics and precision health at the University of Arizona Cancer Center, and professor of medicine, has accepted a leadership position as chair of the Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Utah. His last day at the University of Arizona Health Sciences will be Feb. 1.

A professional engineer and physician-scientist, Dr. Lussier is an international expert in translational bioinformatics and a pioneer in research informatics techniques, including systems biology, data representation through ontologies and high-throughput methods in personalized medicine. During his time at UArizona Health Sciences, he led our efforts to fully develop novel programs in biomedical informatics, computational genomics and precision health, and to advance precision approaches to health outcomes and health-care delivery.

I am grateful for Dr. Lussier’s dedication to Health Sciences over the past seven years, and especially for his collaborative leadership in establishing a strong foundation for the Center for Biomedical Informatics and Biostatistics that we will be able to build upon for years to come.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Lussier on his new position, and in wishing him well in the next chapter of his career.
