Call for applications: NIH-funded training program for early career faculty and transitioning post-docs

Arizona Approaches to Equity: Pandemics, Lungs, and Sleep Program, or AAPLS, is designed to provide advanced research training experiences and long-term mentoring to qualified candidates, including early career faculty and transitioning post-doctoral scientists.

The AAPLS Program aims to address critical health disparities related to lung health, sleep-related breathing disorders and the impacts of pandemics on these systems. It is open to candidates from diverse backgrounds, with a focus on underrepresented groups in the biomedical sciences.

Key features of the AAPLS Program include:

• Small Research Pilot grants, or SRPs, of up to $25,000 to support research projects.
• Grantsmanship workshops to develop skills in writing competitive grant proposals.
• Individualized training and long-term mentoring by experienced faculty.
• Paid trips to Summer Research Institutes and the annual NIH PRIDE meeting.
• Opportunities to present research findings and network with peers and experts.

When: The program will run from July 2024 to August 2025.

Who: Early-career faculty and transitioning post-docs with signed contracts and awaiting commencement in July 2024.

Where: The Summer Institutes will take place at the University of Arizona, offering remote mentoring in addition to fully paid travel for in-person attendance at the Summer Institutes.
